Our Teachers

Carol Juergemeier – 7th year at Play and Prep

Co-Director

Carol has a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a minor in Psychology from Guilford College and holds a current Professional Early Childhood (P-3) License in the State of Ohio. She has been teaching preschool for the last fourteen years both in Pittsburgh and Solon. She is involved with the Solon Cross Country and Track teams. She spends her free time reading and being outside. She lives in Solon with her husband Scott Mabey and three children, Joel, Clark and Elsa.


Jody Halley – 5th year at Play and Prep

Co-Director

Woodshop Teacher

Jody has a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and a minor in Education from Baldwin Wallace University and a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Kent State University. She is involved with the Solon PTAs, Girl Scouts and the Solon Community Band. She lives in Solon with her husband, Scott and her two children, Trevor and Taryn.


Teresa Schofalvi – 7th year at Play and Prep

2’s and 3’s Teacher

Teresa has a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education and a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Dowling College in New York. She has spent the last 31 years teaching, tutoring and/or volunteering in schools with children ages birth to 21 in New York and Ohio. She formerly lived in Solon for 12 years and currently lives in Hudson with her husband, Karl-Heinz, two daughters, Amanda and Amelia and two Dachshunds, Cupcake and Bridget.


Sally Chapek- 6th year at Play and Prep

Science Teacher, Woodshop and 3’s Assistant Teacher

Sally has a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design from Kent State University. Her hobbies include sewing, singing in the Spirit Fire Praise Team at SUMC, taekwondo and playing clarinet in the Solon Community Band. She lives in Solon with her husband, Jason and three children, Charlie, Collin and Carter.


Kaitlyn Pecherkiewicz- 1st year at Play and Prep

3’s Teacher

Kaitlyn holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Wittenberg University as well as a Master’s Degree in Human Development/Family Studies from Kent State University and a Master’s Degree in Applied Social Sciences from Case Western Reserve University. Kaitlyn has worked with youth in a variety of settings including a residential treatment facility, a school-based therapy program, Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, and an in-home daycare. In her free time Kaitlyn runs a small photography business and enjoys reading. Kaitlyn lives in Reminderville with her husband, Eric, and their two kids, Anna and Ryan.


Julie Seitz- 1st year at Play and Prep

3’s Assistant Teacher

Julie has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Caldwell University in Caldwell, NJ. She has been involved in preschool education as an assistant preschool teacher and substitute preschool teacher for the past 5 years and has been a children’s yoga teacher for the past 3 years at several preschools in the Cuyahoga/Summit area. She lives in Twinsburg with her husband, Werner, her two children, Hannah and Joe, and their dog, Biscuit. In her free time, Julie loves to go camping! 🙂


Laurel Zerk – 4th year at Play and Prep

Pre-K Teacher

Laurel is a few classes away from a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education at Cleveland State University. She enjoys music and art, and plays the trumpet, piano, and banjo in her free time. She lives with her husband, Ethan and cat, Roscoe.


Laura Kosnik – 4th year at Play and Prep

Pre-K Teaching Assistant

Laura studied at Lake Erie College and Cleveland State University and has a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Prior to Play and Prep she worked for the Fairport Harbor and Solon Public Schools. Laura and her husband Don live in Solon and have three children Anne, John and Rachel.


Margie Balog- 3rd year at Play and Prep

Pre-K Teacher and Extended Day Teacher

Margie studied Early Childhood Education at Lakeland Community College. She is currently completing coursework to obtain her CDA in Preschool Education. Margie has over 12 years of experience in teaching Preschool. She is very involved with her children through school and sports. She lives in Mayfield Heights with her husband Don, three children Alex, Jacob and Gianna and her puggle Lola.


Carmela Fakler – 2nd year at Play and Prep

Pre-K Teaching Assistant and Early Bird

Carmela has worked in the Solon Schools for 18 years, most recently as a Kindergarten Aide, following a career as a stay at home Mom and before that a Legal Secretary for GE. She has a degree from Lakeland Community College. Carmela and her husband, Brian, live in Solon and have four adult children. She is recently retired and is excited to be work with children again at Play and Prep.


Emily Johnson- 4th year at Play and Prep

Creative Movement and Woodshop Teacher

Emily has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a specialization in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia and a Master of Science degree with a major in Kinesiology from James Madison University. She is involved in Solon PTAs, coaches Lego robotics, and enjoys exercising. She lives in Solon with her husband, Peter, and her three children, Silas, Simone and Wyatt.


Lesley Perlberg – 3rd year at Play and Prep

Music Teacher

Lesley has a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing from Kent State University. She previously taught dance, gymnastics and music at The Little Gym. Lesley is involved with Solon PTAs, running her accessory business, and watching her kids sporting events. She lives in Solon with her husband, David and two kids, Grace and Alex.
